Upper Mustang Trek
Upper Mustang trek is one of the most mysterious trekking in Nepal. Mustang trekking lying in the rain shadow of the Himalayas is perhaps the last enclave of pristine Tibetan culture. Forbidden & isolated from the rest of the World it was able to evolve its own distinctive culture and traditional which is so rich & unique. Since Mustang trekking trail has been open from 1992 is relatively easy trekking along the permitted route to Lo Manthang, which lies in the very heart of Mustang. Mustang trekking is accessible by foot or by air from pokhara to Jomsom. Mustang region is located along the banks of the Kali Gandaki River and divided into two parts namely the Upper Mustang and the Lower Mustang. Upper Mustang is largely inhabited by Manangi people and goes up to the ancient capital of Lo-Manthang. Where Lower Mustang covers the part of lower valley along the Kali Gandaki River.
Upper Mustang trekking required special trekking permit, which can obtain through Nepal Government registered trekking agency. Being in the rain shadow of the Nepal Himalaya, Mustang has much less rain then the rest of Nepal Mustang adventure trekking trip gives you the opportunity to go where few have been before for Nepal trekking tour. As everywhere in the Himalayas, this area provides spectacular mountain scenery highlighted by Dhaulagiri at 8167m, Annapurna I 8091 , Nilgiri 7041m, and you will be surrounded by more than 35 mountains over 6000 meters while you are mustang valley trekking. The elevation of the mustang trekking rise from 2726 to 3780m above the sea level. The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), the international aid organization CARE and the American Himalayan Foundation are involved in development, cultural preservation and environmental activities in upper Mustang. Upper Mustang Trekking itinerary
Day 01: Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) Kathmandu, you are welcomed by hospitable meeting and then you will be transferred to hotel. Our airport representative will explain briefly the program and preparation for trek.
Day 02: Kathmandu to Pokhara 915m. By tourist bus or by flight.
Day 03: Pokhra to Jomsom 2720m, by flight and trek to Kagbeni 2810m.
Day 04: Kagbeni trek to Chele 3050m.
Day 05: trek to Geling 3500m.
Day 06: Geling trek to Tsarang/Chharang 3620m.
Day 07: Tsarang/Chharang trek to Lo Manthang 3840m.
Day 08: Acclimatization or Rest day in Lo-Manthang. During this, you can make sightseeing or excursion tour around Mustang King Palace and monasteries.
Day 09: Lo Manthang trek to Ghami 3545m. via Gekar.
Day 10: Ghami trek to Samar 3356m.
Day 11: Samar trek to Kagbeni.
Day 12: Kagbeni trek to Jomsom.
Day 13: After breakfast Jomsom to Pokhara.( by flight)
Day 14: by bus/private vehicle or by flight back to Kathmandu.
