Trekking Permits - Trekking Formalities

Trekking permit is compulsory to trek in popular trekking destination in Nepal. All visitors are required to have a trekking permit to visit Nepal's interior regions not connected by major road.  The main trials of Everest, Annapurna and the Langtang region (teahouse treks) require  the  payment  of  a  national  park permit  and  conservation area fee,  rather  than  a  special  permit

Trekking permits are available from the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or Pokhara. Here one can get  information about rules  and  regulations  concerning  visas,  trekking  permits  and  permit  fees. Two passports size photographs required with each application. If trekkers are trekking to more than one region, separate trekking permits are necessary for each region.

 

Types of Trekking Permits

National Park Entry Permit

National Park entry permit is fees for enter the National park in Nepal. Foreigners are compulsory to pay the National Park Entry fee. You can get NP permit from immigration office of Nepal or from Tourism Board Office in Kathmandu. Sagarmath (Everest) National Park, Makalu Barun National Park, Chitwan National Park, Shivapuri National Park are other national park entry need separate entry permit.

Conservation Permit

Conservation Area need separate permit to go for trekking in conservation are of Nepal. Annapurna conservation area project (ACAP), and other conservation area requires entry fees. You can get conservation area permit from Kathmandu and Pokhara

Special Permit

Some area is partially restricted by the government of Nepal to trek and special trekking permit is required to go there. Upper Mustang, Manaslu, Makalu, Upper Dolpo, Kanchenjunga and some other areas need special permit to trek. You need to follow the certain rules and regulation of Nepal strictly during trekking in these places.
