The park is set in the flood plains of eastern terai. Over 280 species of birds life can be seen here while 1000's of migratory birds, found nowhere else in Nepal , rest here before continuing their journey. Water buffalo, wild bear and spotted deer can be seen. The park can be reached by vehicle on the east west highway or by a 40 minute flight to Biratnagar or by alternatively rafting the Sun Koshi River .
